About Me

My name is Emőke TAKÁCSNÉ TÓTH, and I graduated from the University of Debrecen in 2003 as a Latin and English teacher. After graduation I started working as a high school teacher, then I changed jobs and joined a company manufacturing and distributing food supplements. As an in-house translator and interpreter I was in charge of translating into Romanian and English the product brochures and marketing materials of the company, as well as keeping in touch with the relevant regulatory authorities.  

My interest in healthcare terminology led me to apply for a job at the Faculty of General Medicine at the University of Debrecen, where I started teaching Medical Latin and English terminology in 2011. Apart from teaching, I compiled several teaching materials for Pharmacy and Physiotherapy undergraduates, as well as for Medical students interested in Prescription Writing. Besides teaching Hungarian and international students, I also gave healthcare English language courses for practising pharmacists and future translators.

I have been doing translations since 2009; and obtained my translator’s certificate in 2018. Since then I have worked as a freelance translator cooperating with several translation agencies and individuals as well. My preferred CAT tool is Trados Studio.

I currently work at the Institute of English and American Studies at the University of Debrecen, teaching translation and helping BA students develop their reading and writing skills.
